FG Europe of Fidakis Group supports actively the Ambient Assisted Living House, a novel experiment for developing the house of the future, today. In the context of its research activities, the Embedded System Design and Applications Laboratory, http://esda-lab.cied.teiwest.gr, of Computer and Informatics Engineering Department of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, has designed and developed an innovative research and exhibition area, where state-of-the art Ambient Assisted Living technologies for supporting elders and people with chronic diseases are being developed and tested.

Ambient Assisted Living House, http://aalhouse.esda-lab.cied.teiwest.gr, is a real world 60 m2 residence, where Zacharias (a low-cost home robot), Alexa (the Artificial Intelligence system of Amazon) and Alexandra (an open source Artificial Intelligence system based on Google technology) are living. Discussing with Alexandra in Greek language, the visitor learns more information about Alexandra’s technology. In addition the visitor is being informed that apart of its main residence at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece in Patra (Greece), Alexandra has also a “second house” located at Nafpaktos (Greece)!
This is actually the second Ambient Assisted Living House that has been developed by Embedded System Design and Applications Laboratory, which is located at Papacharalambios Public Library of Nafpaktos.

The goal of the specific experiment, which is unique worldwide, is to develop an institutional exhibition area at the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece, through which all the innovative technologies developed in the context of European and National research programs by the Institute are being available to the public. In parallel, the Ambient Assisted Living House serves also as an educational tool for training undergraduate and post-graduate students in state-of-the-art technologies.

The Ambient Assisted Living House has been actively supported by major Greek and European companies through sponsorships, mainly on state-of-the-art equipment. Among them, FG Europe of Fidakis Group has donated four Fujitsu air conditioning systems that support KNX technology, which have been installed in both Ambient Assisted Living Houses in Patra and Nafpaktos and are fully controlled using Alexandra’s artificial intelligence algorithms.

The Embedded System Design and Applications Laboratory, through this announcement would like to express its gratitude to all the sponsors and active supporters of the Ambient Assisted Living Houses, and especially the board of the Technological Educational Institute of Western Greece and Papacharalambios Public Library of Nafpaktos, for sharing our dream to innovation from the first day of our efforts!
